Ushers

CONTACT: Donald Lorenz ♦ (908) 647-5025 ♦ pdlorenz@optonline.net

Hospitality, affability and organizational skills typify the Ushers who greet parishioners at Mass, answer questions, assist with seating, arrange for Presentation of the Gifts, take up the Offertory collection, distribute the Sunday Bulletin and “direct traffic” during Holy Communion, They support the Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist by guiding them to communicants who are elderly or disabled, saving them from having to stand in line, and to the longer lines to alleviate congestion. They also help in medical emergencies. The Ushers are truly the unsung heroes of the weekly Mass.

Ushers are assigned to one Mass each weekend and are encouraged to assist on Holy Days of Obligation and at special liturgical events. Training includes a handbook and “on the job” training under an experienced Usher until the candidate is comfortable with the discharge of his or her duties.  There are no regular meetings of the entire organizations but Ushers are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the start of their assigned Masses to review any new, pertinent information.

The parish is currently suffering a shortage of Ushers so parishioners are strongly urged to consider volunteering their time. Men, women, couples and students (high school and above) are all welcome and needed.  Time spent as an Usher counts as service hours for young people.

Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. — Romans 12:13
