Candle
Considered a "living flame" or a lamp.

Cassock
Garment worn by priest or altar servers.

Censer
A container (vessel) in which incense resins may be burned to produce sweet-smelling smoke. Originally, censers were open bowls in stationary positions. Today, they are usually covered containers suspended by chained. Historically, censers were referred to as a thurible.

Chasuble
The chasuble is the outer and chief vestment of the priest. From the Latin word “chasubla,” Meaining "little house." It was originally, a cone-shaped, all weather cloak in Roman times, with only an opening for the head and a little hood. In later years it was heavily decorated and became Cumbersome, so the sides were cut out. Modern chasubles reflect the liturgical color of the season Or feast being celebrated.

Chalice
A name for the cup to hold the wine which will be used for the Eucharist. This is a cup made of gold or silver, or if of silver. It holds the wine and after consecration the precious blood.

Chalice Pall
A flat, square, cloth covered board, about 6 inches square, that is used to cover the chalice.

Ciborium
A covered container used to transport the Eucharistic bread. These covered vessels are usually in the shape of a plate or a bowl. Picture of Ciborium in Tabernacle in St. James Church.

Cincture
The cincture, is a cord of linen fastened about the waist to confine the alb. Walking and active exertion made it necessary for one to gird up a long garment like the alb. Hence the cincture was an essential article of dress.

Corporal
A special cloth on which the vessels containing the bread and wine are placed on the altar.

   Credence Table
Ordinary name given to the side table on which the containers and articles needed for the celebration of the Mass are placed when not in use.

   Crosier
Ordinary name for the bishops pastoral staff. Shaped like a shepherd’s crook, the bishop holds the staff while walking in the entrance procession and in the recessional, while the gospel is proclaimed and during solemn blessings.

   Cross
Representation that Christ died on the cross. The cross can be plain (without Christ’s image) or elaborate and does not have to be seen by the priest during Mass.

Cruets
vessels used to hold the water and wine for the preparation Holy Communion.

Crucifix
Cross displaying Our Lord Jesus affixed as symbolism of his sacrifice for our sins. Each church has a crucifix on or above each altar. The crucifix below in the church is from the church now chapel from 1958 and was moved in 1999 to the new church.
