Basic Prayers of the Catechism

Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. (said at the beginning and end of prayers.)

Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil (For the kingdom, toe power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever.) Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace.  The Lord is with thee.  Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

Prayer of Praise

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now and will be for ever. Amen.

Morning Offering

Most holy and adorable Trinity, one God in three Persons, I praise you and give you thanks for all the favors you have bestowed on me.  Your goodness has preserved me until now.  I offer you my whole being and in particular all my thoughts, word, and deeds -- together with all the trials I may undergo this day.  Give them your blessing.  May your divine love animate them and may they serve your greater glory.

I make this morning offering in union with the divine intentions of Jesus Christ, who offers himself daily in the holy sacrifice of the Mass, and in union with Mary, his Virgin Mother and our Mother, who was always the faithful handmaid of the Lord. Amen.

Or

Almighty God, I thank you for your past blessings. Today I offer myself -- what-ever I do, say, or think -- to your loving care.  Continue to bless me, Lord.

I make this morning offering in union with the divine intentions of Jesus Christ, who offers himself daily in the holy sacrifice of the Mass, and in union with Mary, his Virgin Mother and our Mother, who was always the faithful handmaid of the Lord. Amen.

Or

Almighty Father, I offer you all my prayers, works, joys, sufferings and sorrows -- all that this day may bring -- be they good or bad -- in union with all the sacrifices of the Mass this day throughout the world, for the love of God, conversion of sinners and in reparation for the sins and offenses against the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  Amen.

Act of Faith

O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; I believe that your divine Son became man and died for our sins, and that he will come to judge the living and the dead.   I believe these and all the truths which the holy Catholic Church teaches, because you revealed them, who can neither deceive nor be deceived. Amen.

Act of Love

O my God, I love you above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because you are all good and worthy of all my love.  I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you.  I forgive all who have injured me and I ask pardon of all whom I have injured.  Amen.

Act of Hope

O my God, relying on our infinite goodness and promises, I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of your grace, and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer. Amen.

Act of Contrition

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.  In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.  I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin nor more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.  Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy. Amen.

Or

O my God, I am sorry for my sins because I have offended you.  I know I should love you above all things.  Help me to do penance, to do better, and to avoid anything that might lead me to sin.  Amen.

Angelus

The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.

Response: And she conceived of the Holy Spirit. (Hail Mary)

Behold the handmaid of the Lord.

Response: May it be done unto me according to your word. (Hail Mary)

And the word was made flesh.

Response: And dwelt among us. (Hail Mary)

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.

Response:  That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: O Lord, it was through the message of an angel we learned of the Incarnation of Christ, your Son.  Pour your grace into our hearts, and by his Passion and Cross bring us to the Glory of his resurrection.  Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Queen of Heaven

(Prayer during Easter Season instead of Angelus)

Queen of Heaven, rejoice, Alleluia.

Response: The Son whom you were privileged to bear, Alleluia, has risen as he said, Alleluia.

Pray to God for us, Alleluia.

Rejoice and be glad, Virgin Mary, Alleluia.

Response: For the Lord has truly risen, Alleluia.

Let us pray: O God, it was by the Resurrection of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, that you brought joy to the world.  Grant that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, his Mother, we may attain the joy of eternal life.  Through Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Memorare

Remember, O most compassionate Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided.  Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you, O virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.  O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
