Mission: To lead the congregation in song by providing inspirational music that reinforces the Gospel message and invites more prayerful and active participation in the Liturgy.

Goals: To provide adults and children the opportunity to use their musical talents to serve their parish community.

To foster fellowship among various age groups in the parish who have a similar interest.

To encourage knowledge of music and liturgy through workshops sponsored by NPM. (National Pastoral Musicians)

To provide spiritual support for members in times of need.

To encourage spiritual growth through a choir retreat.

To hold a “Music Ministry Sunday” to encourage people in the congregation to become involved in the Music Ministry.

To develop a Festival Choir that would assist the Adult Choir on special occasions and feast days.

To develop youth choirs that would eventually feed into the adult choir with a greater knowledge of music fundamentals.

Welcome to the Music Ministry site!

(New members are always welcome)

CANTORS: The St. James cantors are leaders of song at the Masses and chant the Responsorial Psalm and the Gospel Acclamation. The cantors are scheduled to sing at specific masses and practice on their own or with the organist. New cantors must read music and have some professional voice training. For information contact Karen Sutherland.

THE ADULT CHOIR: The adult choir is made up of members from all age groups- high school and up. The music is a combination of traditional and contemporary Christian music. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. The Adult Choir sings at the 10:30 a.m. Mass every Sunday and for special feast days and occasions.

For information contact Karen Sutherland.

THE FESTIVAL CHOIR: This group has been organized to supplement the adult choir on special occasions such as Christmas and Easter. These singers

are not able to commit to the Adult Choir on a full time basis but would like to be involved for these special feasts.

Contact Karen Sutherland at 908-766-9680 or jcsuth3@aol.com.

THE PRAISE AND WORSHIP CHOIR; This group is a newly organized group which will sing primarily contemporary music at the 5:30 Mass on the first Saturday of the month and the Teen Mass on the third Sunday of the month. This group is targeting our young adults and teens of the parish. For information contact Kathy Wasilewski.

THE “PRAISERS” CHILDREN’S CHOIR- The “Praisers” is made up of members who are in the fourth grade through the eighth grade in our parish.

The “Praisers” rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and sing once a month on the first Sunday of the month at the 9:00 a.m. Mass.

The music is traditional and contemporary. For information contact Karen Sutherland.

Other ways to get involved: The children’s “ Liturgy of the Word” takes place in the chapel at the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday. These musicians and singers work with the very young children of the parish; singing with them and helping them understand the meaning of the Gospel message of the day.
