Church of Saint James - Parish Ministries

Liturgical

Altar Servers (link to schedules) are boys and girls in grades 6 to 8 who assist at Mass. Contact Donna & Scott Nafie.

Children's Liturgy of the Word Program (schedule attached) is a worship program for children that is designed to teach them an appreciation for God's word at their level and make the Mass a more understandable and approachable experience.  Contact Michele Fabbio. 

Eucharistic Ministers serve at Mass and bring Communion to the sick. Contact Kathy Bell.

Lay Readers deliver and proclaim the Word of God at each Mass. Contact Jack McArtney.

Music Ministries  include cantors, musicians, adult, youth "Praisers," and choirs. Contact Karen Sutherland.

Usher  service includes men and women who help with seating, the Offering and bulletins. Contact Don Lorenz.

Special Worship

Eucharistic Adoration. The purpose of this Society is to provide witness to the Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist by gathering before the Blessed Sacrament in exposition to offer prayers of adoration, petition, thanksgiving and reparation.  Contact the rectory office.

Social Concerns

Adopt-a-Parish - Provides support to our "sister parish," Sacred Heart in New Brunswick.  Contact Sandy Furst.

Interfaith Hospitality NetworkThe Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), founded in New Jersey in 1986, was created in response to the growing need to provide shelter, meals, and comprehensive support to families without homes.  Contact Mary Beth Daras.

Lenten Soup Dinner brings parishioners together to share a simple meal.  Contact Helen Johnson.

Pro Life Fostering respect and protection for all phases of life from conception to natural death. Contact Mark Balzarotti.

Share Your Bread is a monthly food drive to benefit the poor.  Contact George Jonovich.

Adult Education - Enrichment

Cursillo seeks to revitalize the Church and bring one closer to Christ.  Cursillo is both a Method and Movement to live one's life as a modern day Disciple of Jesus.  The method is taught through three-day retreat and re-enforced at weekly reunion groups. Contact Dr. Tony Tangorra 766-1900.

Bereavement Support Group - If you have lost a loved one through death, please join us for support & spirituality. The group meets for 6 weeks beginning on March 23 at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish Center, Room 110. For more information or to sign up please call Susan Picarro (908) 306-1259.

Women's Bible Study The St. James Catholic Bible Study Program is open to all Christian women.  All teaching is according to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church and as explained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  We seek to give glory to our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ, his son and our Lord, through the power of the Holy Spirit in our study of His Word. Worldwide Marriage Encounter is a weekend program offering married couples communications techniques, and insights into their relationship with God. Contact Mary and John Henry.

Pre Cana prepares engaged couples for the Marriage Sacrament. Contact Andrea and Lou Chafullo.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) seeks adults to act as sponsors for adult candidates. Contact Deacon Luke Hally.

Saints Joachim & Anne Society promotes the spiritual and social welfare of people age 52+. Contact Rosemarie Miciak.

Separated / Divorced seeks to support and heal those coping with separation and divorce. Contact the rectory.

Somerset Hills Council of Churches is comprised of all local worship communities. Contact June Kennedy.

Renew is designed for dioceses and clusters of parishes that wish to respond to the Holy Father’s call for a new evangelization and to build upon and strengthen small Christian communities as a pastoral approach for the 21st century. Contact Jane O'Connor.

Men's Education - Enrichment

The Monthly Men's Gathering is an opportunity for men to foster their spirituality.  Contact Perry Johnson Jr.

Top of the Hill Gang provides spiritual enrichment and good fellowship for men age 70 or older. Contact Deacon Jim Bell.

Women's Education - Enrichment

Moms & Tots provides play and socialization for children from birth to age three. Contact Carolin Moschello.

Women's Retreat represents time away at a local retreat house to help women integrate their faith with their family and community roles. Contact Alexis Carola.

Women's Rosary & Prayer Group meets weekly in homes. Contact Mary Margaret Yula.

The Rosary Altar Society (link to schedules) maintains and decorates the Sanctuary and promotes recitation of the Rosary. Contact Barbara Russo.

Faith Sharing are small groups that meet bi-weekly in parishioners' homes. Contact Mary Duhaime.

Mothers' Retreat - time away for mothers for spiritual renewal.  Contact Alexis Carola.

Monday Night Gatherings meets weekly in homes. Contact Mary Margaret Yula.

Youth Ministries

Overview - program serves parish teens through spiritual, service, and social activities.  Contact Cristina Baez.

High School Sharing enables teens to explore their relationships with family, friends, Christ and the Church, in the context of a faith journey. Contact Barbara Boland, Sue Davies or Mary Corbet.

High School Antioch, through retreats and meetings, fosters faith in God and a sense of community among juniors and seniors in high school. Contact Cristina Baez.

Teen Mass Once a month, on a Sunday evening at St. James, we put together the liturgy and music program for what we call the “Teen Mass.”  contact Cristina Baez. 

Youth Education - Enrichment

Cub Scouts provides family-oriented activities for boys in grades 1 to 5 and promotes good character and morals, teamwork and individual achievement.  Contact Dave McCarthy.

Youth Basketball provides physical team activities that stress fitness and sportsmanship. Contact Gene Moretti.

CCD & Vacation Bible School provides Parish children with a basic understanding of their Catholic faith through scriptures and Church teaching. Contact Patti DelRe and/or Diane Ruffle.

Girl Scouts stresses ethical values and enables girls to develop self-esteem and achieve their potential in the community. Contact Jane O'Connor.

St. James School offers a challenging academic and Catholic environment for children in grades K-8. Contact Jerry Kenny Principal.

Service

Computing for God is a new Ministry at St. James established to assist in the maintenance of the church's websites and to assist in the computing needs of the various ministries.  Contact Andrew Chabak. 

Elizabeth Ministry is women ministering to women of childbearing age. Contact Laura Williams.

Friendly Visitors - Shoppers assist the recovering and homebound. Contact Jane Mitchell.

Helping Hands prepares both meals for the seriously ill and funeral luncheons. Contact Irene Seitz.

The Community Soup Kitchen - New this year! Monsignor Capik has launched a parish wide community involvement campaign with the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, located at St. Peter's Church, 70 Maple Avenue.   Contact Cristina Baez.

Holy Name Society assists the Pastor in the conduct of religious observances. Contact Scott Nafie.

Home School Association assists with spiritual, social and academic needs of K-8 School students. Contact Rose Borowsky or Pat Vieser.

Knights of Columbus fraternally binds men to promote charity and patriotism. Contact Rod Koza.

Parish Nurses Program provides Registered Nurses ministering to the needs of parishioners. Contact Sue Abely.
