Usher Service

The ushers ministry is a hospitality service organization of St. James.  Its purpose is to provide an atmosphere that makes people feel comfortable as they arrive at church and throughout Mass.  Ushers greet parishioners, answer their questions and help find seats for them.  They take up the Offertory collection, find parishioners to present the gifts for Communion and assist with the Communion procession.  Ushers also distribute church bulletins and other materials when appropriate.

The ministry is open to men, women, young adults and couples.  Ushers are assigned to the same Mass each weekend.  In addition, ushers are asked to support special Masses including Holy Days of Obligation.  Ushers should be present at least 15 minutes prior to the start of Mass and be dressed appropriately.

Being an usher at St. James is a very rewarding experience.  Ushers become an active part of the community at Mass and interact with all of the faithful.

To offer your services as an usher, contact Don Lorenz at 908-647-5025 or email dhlorenz@att.net or contact the ushers at whatever Mass you attend.
