Pre Cana

CONTACT: Andrea and Lou Chiafullo ♦ (908) 542-1674 ♦ achiafullo@optonline.net

The Catholic Church is prominent in today’s world for the special interest it has in married couples and families.  Everything seems to be considered disposable these days; sometimes even marriage is seen as just another event rather than a permanent commitment. To exchange wedding vows in the presence of a community of faith gives greater significance to the words that are spoken. To celebrate a wedding in the presence of God is a sign of the couple’s loyalty to each other, faithfulness to God and commitment to a marriage that will last a lifetime.

The Pre-Cana program at the Church of Saint James is a marriage preparation program for engaged couples who will be giving each other the sacrament of marriage in the Catholic Church. Qualified married couples conduct a series of meetings in a home setting, during which they share their own personal marital experience, giving insight into communication, sexuality, and the sacrament itself. Other topics include: compatibility of the couple, basic principles of Catholic marriage and family life (namely theological meaning of marriage), conflict resolution within marriage, rules the couple are expected to follow.

The Pre-Cana team couples work to provide the necessary tools and information so that the engaged couple can enter into married life as prepared as possible.

Couples who are interested in joining the Pre-Cana team of Saint James Church and who have been married for at least three years are welcome to join this rewarding ministry.

All engaged couples are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to start their new life with the support and graces derived from the Pre Cana program.

Let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. — 1 John 3:18
