The mission or purpose of Girl Scouting is to inspire girls with the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism, and service that they may become happy and resourceful citizens.  It stresses ethical values and enables girls to develop self-esteem and achieve their potential in the community.

The Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try:

To serve God and my country,

To help people at all times,

And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

The Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be

          Honest and fair,

          Friendly and helpful,

          Considerate and caring,

          Courageous and strong, and

Responsible for what I say and do,

And to

          Respect myself and others,

          Respect authority,

          Use resources wisely,

Make the world a better place, and

Be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5-17 regardless of race, creed, nationality or socio-economic status.

  • Daisy Girl Scouts (Kindergarten) learn many different things by doing arts and crafts, singing songs, and playing games.  They learn how to share and they explore the exciting world around them.
  • Brownie Girl Scouts (Grades 1-3) earn Try-its, go to camp, make new friends, do crafts, dance, play games, explore and develop new skills.
  • Junior Girl Scouts (Grades 4-6) earn badges, learn new skills and discover new things about themselves.  They take part in a wide variety of programs including camp.
  • Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts (Grades 7-12) begin to broaden the world around them by earning Interest Project awards and by learning new leadership skills.  Cadette and Seniors have many options open to them including the Wider Opportunity program.

Girl Scouts in Bernards Township are part of Service Unit 8 of the Girl Scouts of Rolling Hills Council.  Troops are organized by school and age level so girls in St. James Parish are members of troops throughout the township.
