Cursillo

The name Cursillo is Spanish, meaning “short course”.   The Cursillo is a 3 day experience of men or women coming together and forming a community which brings into focus the place of the Christian in the world.   It gives those who make a Cursillo, a new understanding of basic Christian truths and the desire to serve Our Lord.   Its purpose is to form Group and Community reunions that allow us to continually grow in our faith.    Cursillo is for Catholics who are looking to deepen their faith and commitment to Jesus Christ through prayer, evangelization and living the Gospel.  It is not a weekend encounter or a retreat or group therapy for emotional difficulties or marriage counseling, etc.  During the 3 days, you will hear a blend of serious and light-hearted talks, and go through some spiritual exercises and discussions that will be delivered by clergy, religious and laity.   The weekend stresses the importance of living the Fourth Day, which is the rest of your life.   It promises a means for continual spiritual growth through a fully alive Christian community that meets through small group reunions and also through what is called an "Ultreya," which is a community reunion.  It’s difficult to explain Cursillo to someone who has not experienced Cursillo. Often, for those who have experienced Cursillo it is still somewhat mystifying. This is not because the Cursillo Movement is a "secret" organization rather the reason behind the mystery is God. No one can fully explain how God touches each person in His special/unique way throughout the various elements of Cursillo.   Please share this experience with us and build community within our Parish of St. James.
