Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scout Pack 55, Grades 1-5 (Patriots' Path Council)

CONTACT: Steve Wetzel ♦ (908) 696-8591 ♦ skwpaw@verizon.net.

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. For nearly a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes — and through nearly a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.

Saint James Church sponsors Cub Scout Pack 55 (Black River District, Patriots’ Path Council) for boys in Grades 1 through 5. Cub Scouting positively influences character development and encourage spiritual growth; helps boys develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship; encourages good sportsmanship and pride in growing strong in mind and body; improves understanding within the family; strengthen boys’ ability to get along with and respect others; fosters a sense of personal achievement by helping boys develop new interests and skills; shows how to be helpful and do one’s best; provides fun and exciting new things to do; prepares boys to become Boy Scouts. In addition to fun and learning adventures, Pack 55 participates in service activities for Saint James Parish and the surrounding community. The Pack meets monthly. Individual Dens set their own meeting schedules.  Training for adult leaders is available through the Patriots’ Path Council.

The Diocese of Metuchen supports the Boy Scout program, especially that component of the Scout Law that states, “A Scout is reverent,” and helps Scouts to fulfill their Promise to “do my duty to God and my country.” To this end, boys are encouraged to earn the Catholic religious emblems offered at each level of Cub Scouting: Light of Christ for Tiger Cubs in Grade 1 and Wolf Cubs in Grade 2; and Parvuli Dei (Children of God) for Bear Cubs in Grade 3 and Webelos Scouts in Grades 4 and 5.
